Crazy Musashi marks the latest pairing between Tak Sakaguchi and Yuji Shimomura, and producer Ota Takayuki who now (re-)launches the project via his newly established WiiBER production banner, thanks in large part to the aid of up to 1000 crowdfunding donors last year.
Sakaguchi leads the project, billed as a 77-minute single-take actioner, which sought its long-endured development through a series of changing hands and the actor’s own career troubles with management. (filmcombatsyndicate.com)
Saburo is a high school student good in sports, but not very good with his studies. One day, Saburo travels back in time, and arrives in the Sengoku period of 1549. Saburo meets Nobunaga who looks and sounds just like him. He is the son of a warlord and magistrate of the lower Owari Province. Nobunaga is physically weak and he asks Saburo to take his place. Saburo fills in as Nobunaga and attempts to unify the country of Japan. Very rare and hard to find 2016 -2 hour drama movie.
Yuji Oda, one of the top stars in Japan, has a lot of fun playing the scruffy master-less samurai who calls himself Tsubaki Sanjuro (the thirty-year- old Camelia). He's rude and cynical and domineering, but still willing to help the innocent-but- hopeless young samurai rescue their chamberlain from a group of corrupt officials. There's a lot of bloodless sword action, though the sound effects are pretty descriptive. Director Yoshimitsu Morita gives the film a light touch, and it flows by quickly, which is perfect for this generation.
