Kotaro Mochizuki/Haruma Miura is a mild-mannered, weakly high school student. One day, he visits a library and meets the mysterious librarian Himiko/Mimura, who recommends Kotaro to read an ancient book about a heroic general from the Sengoku period (400 years ago). Kotaro notices that he has the same name, and is the same age as the general described in the book. He experiences a "Out of this world" flashback, which transforms him to the general from the past. Kotaro later mentions the book to his father, who tells him that he may be the descendant of a powerful Samurai clan. At that moment, Kotaro receives a message from his childhood friend Ai/Anne Watanabe telling him that their classmate Tsuyoshi Nakamura/Yu Shirota is in trouble. He rushes to the scene but doesn't have the courage to help, until "The Flashback" transforms him into "the samurai general" from the past.

Nui/Ryoko Yonekura is lost after the sudden death of her adoptive father Shimada Mataemon. Her own father met an untimely death when he was about to expose the corruption of the shogunate. Mataemon’s son Shimada Shinnosuke/Koji Yamamoto casts away his sword to learn medicine. They are sent off by their guardian Wakisaka Yasutada/Naoto Takenaka, a shogunate administrator for shrines and temples, and the two of them go their separate ways. Five years later, the eleventh shogun Tokugawa Ienari/Masahiko Tsugawa Masahiko is in his final years. Even though Ienari has handed the position of shogun to Ieyoshi/Tamotsu Ishibashi, he still wields the real power. To continue enjoying wealth and power even after he passes away, Ienari’s concubine Omiyo no Kata/Yuko Nakamura, who has been in his favour for a long time despite his legal wife Tadako/Kayoko Shiraishi, desires to have her own grandson Maeda Inuchiyo installed as the next shogun. Making use of his right-hand man Mizuno Minonokami/Houka Kinoshita and others, Omiyo no Kata’s backer Nakano Sekio/Jun Kunimura wheels and deals for the purpose of making Ienari write the directive that will determine the next shogun. Before long, Nui identifies liaisons between the monks of Kannouji and Sajima/Atsuko Takahata and other ladies in waiting. She is determined to expose the collusion between Kannouji, where Omiyo’s biological father is the head monk, and the unforgivable relationships between the ladies in waiting of the inner palace and the monks. Nui is undertaking this undercover investigation without regard for the danger she is putting herself in, for the sake of Shinnosuke whom she secretly loves. After political power is set right, she wants him to become a samurai again. Shinnosuke is now a back-alley doctor and is staying with a female called Toyoharu/Yui Natsukawa, who is a master of a style of Japanese joruri music and the shamisen. One day, Kikukawa’s drowned body is found in the castle town. In truth, Kikukawa is Toyoharu’s younger sister. Certain that this case is connected with the corruption in the inner palace, Toyoharu sneaks into Nakano Sekio’s residence to search for the truth. Meanwhile, Ienari collapses from a stroke. Nakano takes advantage while Ienari is weak and finally succeeds in obtaining his written directive that the next shogun will be Maeda Inuchiyo. Will the battle for succession be settled with this? And what about the outcome of the love between Nui, Shinnosuke and Toyoharu?

Sanada Nobushige (Later known as Sanada Yukimura) was born to a lord who owned a small piece of land in Shinsu (present day Nagano Pref). He survived using his wisdom, courage and continuous effort during the Sengoku period. Eventually, he later matured to a very respectful samurai warrior. During The Siege of Osaka, Nobushige constructed the small fortress "Sanada-maru" on the periphery of Osaka Castle. His fortress successfully repelled the much larger invading forces of 38,000 warriors of the great Tokugawa Ieyasu (Later the first Shogun of Edo Period).

Hissatsu Shigotonin 2015 Special *Noriyuki Higashiyama

Watanabe Shogoro/Higashiyama Noriyuki is a lazy constable at the Honmachi Magistrate’s Office and avoids troublesome tasks. But once there is a “job”, he demonstrates cool-headedness in cutting down villains with his sword. Shogoro has always been unable to hold his head high as a son-in-law adopted into his wife's family. One day, he has a rare display of anger and gets into a quarrel with his wife Fuku/Nakagoshi Noriko.

 Fuku leaves home. Coincidentally, a chief priest and wives who have run away from their husbands and sought refuge at the temple are slain. Fearing that Fuku is one of them, Shogoro hurries to the temple. At the same time, a husband and wife pair of assassins Kawaraya no Jinpachiro/Endo Kenichi and Nakibokuro no Omiya/Yamamoto Mizuki arrive in Edo. Shogoro happens to encounter them at the corner of a street. Okiku/Wakui Emi, who knows Jinpachiro and Omiya, warns Shogoro that he must not have anything to do with them. However, Jinpachiro, a carouser and gambler, ends up meeting the picture framer Ryoji/Matsuoka Masahiro at a gambling den in the red light district. Despite the things they share in common, Ryoji cannot hide his disgust at Jinpachiro’s way of life. At that point, a man who seems to be the criminal in the temple massacre is found to have committed suicide. Although Shogoro senses a conspiracy behind the case, the jurisdiction for the temple lies with the magistrate for temples and shrines, and Shogoro’s superior Masumura Rintaro/Namase Katsuhisa is too timid to investigate further. The priest Enten/Takenaka Naoto takes up the position of chief priest with the blessings of the magistrate for temples and shrines Edajima Kaneyoshi/Nakamaru Shinsho shortly after that. Ryu/Chinen Yuri who had originally experienced religious training as the heir of a temple, feels something is wrong with the new state of affairs at the temple which has started accepting females as if nothing has happened. On this day, Oichi/Tanaka Minako brings her daughters Misato/Miyatake Mio and Yui/Miyatake Matsuri to the temple to seek shelter from her husband’s violence. However, behind the scenes at the temple is a conspiracy to take advantage of the vulnerabilities of females and exploit them.

SPECIALIST 4 Special 2015 *Tsuyoshi Kusanagi

The impressive way in which a bomb scare that occurred the city of Kyoto was resolved spreads on the internet. Besides that, an interview with Takakura Kiichiro/Osugi Ren, the commissioner of the Kyoto Prefectural Police, is published in the newspapers and Takuma Yoshito’s/Kusanagi Tsuyoshi ability becomes a topic of conversation. Requests to investigate unsolved cases from pour in from every precinct within the prefecture’s jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Takakura hints at the dissolution of the Special Investigation Unit which was hastily created to allow Takuma to be reinstated and makes other inscrutable moves such as sounding out Anegakoji Chinami/Minami Kaho about a instructor position at the police academy. In the midst of this, Arashiyama City’s unofficial mascot Nishinba is kidnapped and the Special Investigation Unit is asked to investigate. At first, Chinami and the members of Special Investigation Unit (Ashina Sei, Satoi Kenta, Hiraoka Yuta) dismiss it as a mere theft of a cartoon character costume, but Takuma raises the possibility of a kidnapping and they begin to investigate. Then the mascot’s finger is delivered to Chinami’s home. The sender is a crowdfunding site called ‘Hauptmann’. On this occasion, supporters were notified of the time and place that the flash mob would be conducted, but Chinami’s mother-in-law Sae/Enami Kyoko mistakenly invested 120,000 yen! After taking a look at the site, Takuma points out that it is not soliciting funding for events but for crimes. Besides that, he deduces from the presence of a similar site which bears the names of actual vicious criminals “Dillinger”, “Ponzi” and “Young” overseas, that when the funding target is reached, crimes imitating these criminals will occur. Takuma names this “crime funding”. Learning that a kidnapper called Bruno Richard Hauptmann exists in the US and the connection between Nishinba’s kidnapping and funding solicited on the crowdfunding site, Chinami and the rest start to re-investigate the kidnapping case. It is not long before a phone call is made to the mayor of Arashiyama City to demand a ransom of 4,960,000 yen. The kidnapping of Nishinba is the truth. However, Takuma has misgivings about the ransom’s amount and tampers with it. Then a shocking sight is witnessed at the scene of the handover. In addition, they find out that the crowdfunding site which was supposed to be shut down has been restored and concern grows within the Special Investigation Unit that crimes funded by investors will continues. The team is broken up and then a cherished person dies.

SPECIALIST 3 Special *Tsuyoshi Kusanagi

Shu Kubota, who runs a temporary employment agency, is clubbed to death with a bat. A metal bat believed to be the murder weapon as well as something that looks like an old toy are found at the crime scene. Takakura Kiichiro/Ren Osugi, the commissioner of the Kyoto Prefectural Police, orders Takuma Yoshito (Kusanagi Tsuyoshi) to go to the crime scene. Takuma and the other members of the Special Investigation Unit begin the investigation. They learn that the old toy is part of a set of seven “Protect Kyoto” character figurines of different occupations which were made while Takuma was in the Kyoto Prefectural Police’s Public Relations Division some 10 years ago. This time, the toy placed at the crime scene stands for public prosecutor. Oddly, Kubota was a former senior prosecutor of the Kyoto Public Prosecutors’ Office. Takuma says this is a case that he must solve and tells his regular partner, Chinami Anegakoji/Kaho Minam, that he is dissolving their partnership. He starts to investigate on his own and discovers that a “Protect Kyoto” character figurine wearing a police uniform was left at the scene of the murder of Chinami’s husband, Takehiko, who had been a police officer. There is a ring of truth to what the prisoner, Wakahiro Sagami/Takaya Kamikawa, had previously talked about. “The case of Anegakoji-san’s husband 12 years ago and your wrongful conviction are connected.” Suspicious of Takuma’s actions, Chinami presses him for an explanation, and gets the truth out of him. Takuma does not want to get her involved because he does not know what danger lies ahead. But she gets the upper hand and begins to investigate the case 12 years ago with Yuiko Matsubara/Sei Ashina, Kohei Horikawa/Yuta Hiraoka and the rest of the Special Investigation Unit. They identify several cases where the character figurines were left behind at the crime scenes. What is the association between the figurines which Takuma made and these cases? As Takuma and the members get to the bottom of the matter, they come to the least expected person...
