In truth, the 300 million yen that was stolen had been insured. Two-thirds of it was paid by an American insurance company, but few Japanese knew about this at the time. In 1976, a Japanese is sent from New York. He is Takeda Hideya/Tamura Masakazu of ENY Fire & Marine Insurance, a leading American insurance company. Frustrated by a Japan which had become hardly recognizable after its defeat in World War II, he abandoned the country, left his mother Yoshiko/Naraoka Tomoko behind and went to America alone. Takeda, who has solved successive insurance cases in America, is back in Japan for the first time since he left. His objectives are to get to the bottom of the 300 million yen heist that even the Japanese police have not solved; and make the criminal(s) pay $500,000 in compensation. Kaseifu no Mita Special/Streaming

2011 J-drama 45 min Special series. The story revolves around a family who is grieving over their mother's recent death (suicide). They hired Mita/Nanako Matsushima as their housekeeper to upkeep the house. She will do anything that her employer orders her to do, except smiling or revealing her past personal info. This series was broadcasted October 12 to December 21, 2011, as part of Nippon Television's Tears Wednesday time slot, which airs every Wednesday from 10pm to 10:54pm. On average, Kaseifu no Mita garnered a viewership rating of 25.2%. Its last episode garnered a viewership rating of over 40% when it was aired, making it the highest watched show of 2011 in Japan (The last TBS drama breaking 40% viewing was "Beautiful Life" in 2000). Kaseifu no Mita had won several awards, including the "Best Drama" award, at the 71st Television Drama Academy Awards.

Phone Call to the Bar *Yo Oizumi EN Sub/Streaming

Synopsis: In the Susukino red light district of Sapporo, a private detective/Yo Oizumi drinks alcohol with his driver Takada/Ryuhei Matsuda in his favorite bar. There he receives a phone call from a woman who identifies herself as Kyoko Kondo. The woman asks the detective to complete a simple task. The detective, having an excellent sense for danger, thinks the work is easy and accepts the case. Not longer after he starts, the private detective is kidnapped and buried under snow. Director Mochizuki Rokuro has taken the completely opposite approach of director Miike Takeshi (Ichi the Killer) who also updated the genre. Instead of cool and slick ultra-violence, Mochizuki has channeled Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) and Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket), looking at the life of average people mixed up in violent circumstances, people who often make wrong choices and do stupid things, but still try to carve out some small slice of happiness in a harsh and unforgiving world.

In the late Edo period, corruption in the government has been growing rampant while the samurai and townspeople in the city of Edo are discontent; during the reign of the eleventh shogun Tokugawa Ienari. Jirokichi/Hideaki Takizawa, a sake dealer, lives in a tenement housing area with most of the common people. He sells sake at night from a stall, but no one has seen has ever seen him. He is always sleeping or spending all his time at the soba shop. However, there is another side to Jirokichi. He is the masterful thief Nezumi Kozo who sneaks into the estates of wealthy samurai, and steals boxes of 1,000 ryo coins. He gives the money away freely to the poor common people. Jirokichi lives together with his cute younger sister Kosode/Shiori Kutsuna who is astonishingly talented.

Yatterman *Kyoko Fukada/Streaming

(All STAR Cast) The Narrator (Yamadera) explains Gan Takada (aka Yatterman #1, Sho Sakurai/ARASHI) and his girlfriend, Ai Kaminari (aka Yatterman #2, Sakai Fukuda), live a double life as crime-fighting heroes. They are based under Takada Toys, founded by Gan's father. Gan built Toybotty and Yatterwoof, the latter an abandoned plan from his father. The girl they found in the ruins was Shoko Kaieda (Anri Okamoto), daughter of Dr. Kaieda (Sadao Abe), an archaeologist. The piece of blue stone Shoko carries is a part of the Skull Stone, a legendary object now split into four pieces. Dr Kaieda, who is on a quest to find them, is attacked in the forest of Narway by Skullobey, a black-clad being with an oversized skull.
